Traveling by private car during the Christmas or New Year holidays is really exciting. However, reducing the potential for encountering congested roads is also necessary so that travel time is more efficient and the opportunity to meet extended family lasts longer. One way is to take an alternative route, aka choosing a section that is not too congested.
Quoted from the Antara news agency, the Solo-Yogyakarta-YIA Kulonprogo toll road has started operating. The operation of this functional route without tariffs aims to support services to people going home and on holiday in the Solo and Yogyakarta areas during the Christmas 2023 and New Year 2024 periods.
PT Jasamarga Jogja Solo (JMJ), a subsidiary of PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk managing the Solo-Yogyakarta-YIA Kulonprogo (Jogja-Solo) Toll Road, operating the functional route of the Solo-Yogyakarta-YIA Kulonprogo Toll Road from Kartasura to Karanganom for 13 km starting today, Friday (22/12/2023).

Vehicles permitted to pass are class 1 four-wheeled vehicles, non-buses and non-trucks, not intended for heavy vehicles. “The maximum speed for road users passing through this functional route is 40 km/hour,” explained Suchandra P Hutabarat, Main Director of PT JMJ.
The functional lane of the Jogja-Solo Toll Road (Kartasura to Karanganom) will be operated in two periods. Namely: the homecoming flow period is 22-31 December 2023 and the return flow period is 1-3 January 2024.
Different from the previous Idul Fitri 1444H holiday service which was only open from Kartasura (Colomadu Toll Gate/GT Access) to Jl Palm oil is 6 KM long, in the Christmas and New Year 2023/2024 period a longer functional route will be opened from the Colomadu GT & on/off Banyudono to Karanganom access for 13 KM. Functional road pavement is in the form of rigid pavement construction.
“With a longer route we provide more optimal service because this functional route can be an alternative route for road users to avoid traffic congestion that often occurs at Tugu Kartasura Delanggu and Jalan Raya Solo-Yogyakarta while shortening travel time from Access/ “GT Colomadu to Klaten,” added Suchandra P Hutabarat.
The Functional Route of the Jogja-Solo Toll Road (Kartasura to Karanganom) is only operated in one direction during the homecoming flow period and one direction during the return flow. Access to the Jogja-Solo Toll Road functional route from the National Road will be via the Banyudono on/off route which is around 700 m from Colomadu GT.
Regulation of traffic flow direction during the Christmas and New Year homecoming period, namely in the period 22-31 December 2023 at 06.00-17.00 WIB, this functional route will operate one way from GT Colomadu (Trans Java Toll Road) to Boyolali and/or Kartasura and heading to Klaten and/or Yogyakarta.
During the Christmas and New Year reverse flow period, namely in the period 1-3 January 2024 at 06.00-17.00 WIB, this functional route operates one way from GT Karanganom to GT Banyudono (for Boyolali and/or Kartasura destinations) and GT Karanganom to GT Colomadu (for the purposes of the Trans Java Toll Road).
Happy private car driving during the Christmas Holidays!
