Is it necessary to remove the car battery during the Christmas holidays?

,

The Christmas holiday will soon arrive, a number of preparations are being made to enjoy the holiday with family or loved ones. However, if you don’t use a private car, do you need to remove the car battery to be safe?

As quoted from the Mitsubishi Motors page, apparently it is not necessary to remove the car battery when it is left for a long time, such as the Christmas Holidays.

Disconnecting the car battery in a modern car will actually affect the safety of the car, so that the alarm does not function properly. So it’s a good idea to keep the car battery installed for safety reasons.

In the past, many people suggested that when a car is left for more than a week, it is mandatory to remove the car battery. The goal is to prevent the car battery from being drained because the car has not been started for a long time.

However, this method apparently does not apply to today’s modern cars. Especially if it’s only a matter of days or weeks.

However, there are a number of steps that need to be taken so that the car’s performance is maintained and there are no problems when the car is used again.

First, try to put the transmission in Neutral for Manual transmission cars. For automatic transmission cars, you can use the shift lock feature to move the transmission position from P to N. This has an emergency function if something undesirable happens while you are returning home.

Second, when you leave your vehicle in your garage, you should not activate the hand brake. Because if the handbrake is activated for days it can be exposed to humid air and risk becoming sticky. As a result, the brakes become stuck and remain locked when used.

And the durability of the springs on drum brakes or pistons on rear disc brakes is very influential if they are activated for a long time, it will have the effect of weakening the pressure on the brake springs or pistons later.

If the car is left for a long time or more than a week, the best solution is to use a stone or wooden block to support the tire.

Third, the fuel tank should be full before leaving the car. This is to minimize the occurrence of condensation due to the presence of air space in the tank due to the minimal amount of fuel.

Condensation can cause water droplets to appear. These water droplets have the potential to contaminate the combustion chamber or cause oxidation in the metal fuel tank.

Finally, it is recommended to park the car in a closed area. This aims to protect the car from many potential things that could contaminate or damage the car. Use additional car covers if necessary. Using a car cover will also primarily protect the car from dust.
