Off-Road Style Daihatsu Taft Ready to Become a Challenger to the Suzuki Jimny

,

Daihatsu is reportedly interested in converting the Daihatsu Taft into an off-road model as a challenger to the Suzuki Jimny.

However, the presence of the off-road style Daihatsu Taft is not expected to be as impressive as the Suzuki Jimny.

The reason is that, as is known, the Daihatsu Taft was originally designed as a road passenger car which would be adapted into an off-road model.

Meanwhile, the Suzuki Jimny was designed from the start as a vehicle that could be taken anywhere. It uses Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA).

Based on the BestCar report, Wednesday (29/11/2023), the new Daihatsu will have a slightly different design from the road version of the Taft. The possible change will be in a higher ground clearance position.

Meanwhile the front and rear bumpers will get a more sturdy design. It’s just that so far there hasn’t been much information regarding the off-road version of the Daihatsu Taft.

A little information, the first generation Daihatsu Taft made between 1974 and 1984 was a tough vehicle similar to the Suzuki Jimny of its time.

In some countries, Daihatsu Taft comes with the name Scat or Wildcat. However, it is likely that the new generation Daihatsu Taft will not be as tough as the first generation.

Daihatsu Taft

The Daihatsu Taft currently on the market is equipped with a diesel engine with the code DL41 with a capacity of 2,765 cc, 4 cylinders, indirect injection.

The power produced reaches 72 hp @ 3,600 rpm with a torque of 170 Nm @ 2,200 rpm. The only transmission option available is a 5-speed manual.
